UNITY — The Sebasticook Regional Land Trust presented Dan Hill of Sidney with its 2023 Volunteer of the Year award at its annual meeting in November.
“We could not steward our lands without our volunteer labor,” said Tom Aversa, board chair for the land trust, in a news release from the trust. “Dan has been on the stewardship committee for nine years, since he first joined the SRLT as a student board member while at Unity College. He has been very active as a land steward and participates in numerous trail work days while also serving as our invasive species management specialist.”
Hill holds a position with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as a deer habitat biologist and is also a licensed forester. He recently planned and led a workshop on the Avenza mapping app for SRLT members and volunteers.
“I started with SRLT as a student board member in 2014 when I was at Unity College, and had this opportunity to get outdoors off the Unity campus and collaborate with others,” said Hill. “I’ve learned so much from everyone I’ve met here and the connections that I’ve made.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
