The Leeds Historical Society is set to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the first town meeting there at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the History Center on Route 106 in Leeds Center.

Visitors can check out the newly renovated building and view the exhibit of original documents from the early meetings; refreshments will be served.
Leeds was incorporated in 1801. In 1822, the town voted to build a Town House in the center of town, and the following year held the first town meeting there.
Prior to 1823, town meetings were held in the homes of various Leeds citizens, according to a news release from Pam Bell, society board member.
