Three men were arrested recently in Kennebec County on drug trafficking charges after sheriff’s deputies found illegal substances inside their vehicles during traffic stops, according to officials.
Timothy Dumas, 46, and Dustin Schultz, 24, both of Manchester, were arrested Tuesday in Augusta after deputies found 27.8 grams of methamphetamine and 5.2 grams of fentanyl inside the Toyota pickup truck in which they were riding, according to statement released to the news media by the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy stopped the truck at about 1 a.m. on Route 3 in Augusta for a vehicle defect. The deputy recognized Dumas, who was driving while his license was suspended, and Schultz, who had a warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court.
Both men were charged with two counts of Class B unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs and a Class E charge of violating conditions of release. Dumas also was charged with operating a vehicle while his license was suspended, a Class E offense.
The two men are being held without bail at the Kennebec County Correctional Facility in Augusta.
Less than a week before that, Paul M. Adams, 40, of Augusta was arrested on four charges after a deputy found 6.5 grams of cocaine base and 16.4 grams of pills believed to be a fentanyl compound or methamphetamine inside his truck and on his body, according to officials. The pills were of various colors and resembled children’s vitamins.
A deputy had pulled Adams over, suspecting he was driving while intoxicated after crossing the double yellow line and gone into the oncoming lane multiple times on River Road in Chelsea, according to officials.
Adams was charged with Class A trafficking in fentanyl, Class D operating under the influence of drugs, Class B unlawful possession of cocaine base and Class D criminal mischief, for having damaged the cruiser on the way to the county jail.
Adams was arrested at about 11 a.m. on July 12. His bail was set at $8,500.
