FAIRFIELD — Lawrence High School has announced its class of 2023 top 10 students in alphabetical order.

Alonna Battis Submitted photo

Alonna Liberty Battis is the daughter of Ashley and Jesse Battis of Fairfield. She is the senior class president and a four-year member of Student Government; three-year member of National Honor Society, a member of the varsity field hockey team and Class B State Champs this year, as well as KVAC All-Academic and All-State Academic team for field hockey.

Battis plans to attend the University of New England in the fall to major in nursing and eventually attend grad school to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner.

Adam Boutin is the son of Derik and Janean Boutin of Fairfield. He focused his time and attention on his school work and his job outside of school. Boutin plans to attend Kennebec Valley Community College to major in sustainable construction to get his Building Science and Carpentry certification and then complete the welding program.

Erica Cochran Submitted photo

Erica J. Cochran is the daughter of Jessica and Richard Cochran of Fairfield. She is the class valedictorian and recipient of the QuestBridge Scholarship, with which she will attend Dartmouth on a full, four-year scholarship. Her involvement in activities at Lawrence include the Math Team and Upward Bound her junior and senior years, as well as cheerleading her freshman year. She has been accepted into the Society of Women Engineers for three years of excellence in Mathematics. Cochran was also the Principal’s Award recipient for this year, which is an award given annually to the Maine Principals’ Association member school’s top scholar.

Cochran plans to attend Dartmouth this fall. Her major is undecided, but she thinks that she will likely focus her studies on neuroscience or neonatal care.

Alicen Higgins Submitted photo

Alicen Sylvia Higgins is the daughter of Joe and Buffy Higgins of Fairfield. She has been a member of the National Honor Society since her sophomore year and has played varsity field hockey and basketball all four years, playing on two state championship teams this year in both field hockey and basketball. She played varsity lacrosse her sophomore and junior years and has volunteered for the PAL program, Walk for Hope, Victories over Violence, Box-out for Cancer, as well as at the Waterville Rotary, the Fairfield Food Pantry, and the Salvation Army.

Next year, Higgins plans to attend the University of Maine at Augusta to study nursing and play basketball.

Parker Higgins Submitted photo

Parker Higgins is the son of Mel and Libby Higgins of Albion. He is a Bausch and Lomb Science Award recipient, a three-year member of National Honor Society, four-year member of Student Government, as well as three-year member of varsity football, basketball and baseball teams, and was captain of both the football and basketball teams. He also was a finalist for the Fitzpatrick Award as one of the best senior high school players in the state.

Parker plans to attend the University of New England to study business administration with a specialization in healthcare management.

Julie Renee Lawe is the daughter of Jamie and Tristan Lawe of Fairfield. She received the National Rural and Small Town Award from College Board for scoring among the top 10% in the country on her PSAT exam taken during her sophomore year. She participated in the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute for three years, as well as productions in the Lawrence Theatre Co. all four years, Vocal Vibe and Jazz Band, KV Choir, All State Choir, and several art classes both inside and outside of school. In the senior superlatives section of the yearbook, she was selected Most Likely to be President. She is the vice president of the National Honor Society.

Lawe plans to attend KVCC to earn her associate degree in psychology, and then attend the University of Maine at Farmington to earn her bachelor’s degree and become a child psychologist specializing in special needs behavior and trauma-based therapy.

Caleb Luckern Submitted photo

Caleb Luckern is the son of Chris and Jennifer Luckern of Fairfield. He has participated in football, track — earning an All-Conference title in the 800-meter run in 2022 — as well as making the All-Academic Teams in both golf and basketball. He’s a member of the National Honor Society, Empower Club, and the Homecoming Committee.

Next year, Luckern plans to attend the University of Maine with a possible major in engineering.

Alexis Moran Submitted photo

Alexis Jaya Moran, the daughter of Brianna Horan and Matthew Moran, resides in Fairfield. She is the senior class vice president and has been active in student government for all four years. She is secretary of the National Honor Society, as well as having been a member of the society for three years. She played field hockey and was a member of the 2023 Class B State Champions, as well as a member of the 2021 and 2022 KVAC Champion Field Hockey Teams. She mad the KVAC All-Academic Team for Field Hockey, as well as being named All State All-Academic for Field Hockey.

Next year, Moran plans to attend the University of New England and study medical biology to become a physician assistant.

Jorja Paige Poulin is the daughter of Laurie Allen and Len Poulin of Benton. She is president of the National Honor Society and Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute. In addition to being class treasurer all four years, Poulin was involved in the marching band all four years, serving as co-drum major her senior year, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Vocal Vibe, Jazz Choir, and Theatre throughout her high school years.

Poulin will graduate from KVCC with a Health Science Certificate this year and plans to attend KVCC for her first two years in the nursing program before attending the University of Maine at Augusta to become a nurse practitioner.

Ashtynn Stewart Submitted photo

Ashtynn Mary Stewart, the daughter of Erica and Michael Stewart of Albion, is the class of 2023 salutatorian. Throughout high school, she participated in varsity field hockey and captained the 2023 State Championship team, as well as played varsity lacrosse. She received KVAC All-Academic honors in those sports and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Stewart plans on attending the University of New England in the fall and major in marine biology.
