SKOWHEGAN — Redington-Fairview General Hospital is partnering with local leaders to offer a Walking Tour of Skowhegan’s Hope Gardens — The Yellow Tulip Project, garden beds with yellow tulips that will be in bloom.

The tour is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 6.

A social hour will begin at 9 a.m. at the Maine Grains Farmer’s Market, 42 Court St. The tour will begin at 10 a.m. starting and ending at Maine Grains.

All who have been affected by mental illness, or who wish to spread awareness, are invited to attend. At the end of the tour, attendees can debrief and have conversation with other attendees.

Last fall, the hospital partnered with local organizations, businesses and schools to plant Hope Gardens to promote the effort in reducing stigma, spreading hope, and building community around mental illness so that people know that there is always help and hope, and that no one should ever suffer alone, according to a news release from Brittney Dunphy, community health educator at the hospital.

This event is made possible by partnership with the hospital, Lake George Regional Park, Somerset Public Health, Main Street Skowhegan, Crisis and Counseling, Maine Grains, and Sebasticook Valley Hospital.
