The University of Maine scored 11 runs in the seventh inning on its way to a 15-13 baseball win against St. Joseph’s University in Merion Station, Pennsylvania.
Jake Rainess had a solo home run and an RBI single in the seventh for the Black Bears (9-11). Jake Marquez added a two-run single.
Connor Goodman and Marquez were both 3 for 5 for Maine. Myles Sargent also had three hits, including a double and a home run, and two RBI, while Dylan McNary drove in three runs with a double and a home run.
Noah Lewis earned the win, allowing three runs on seven hits in six inning.
Brett Callahan had three hits and scored four times for St. Joseph’s (8-11).
BATES SPLITS: Henry Jamieson was 4 for 4 with six RBI as Bates (8-4) earned a doubleheader split against Coast Guard (5-7) with a 10-4 win in the second game, at New London, Connecticut.
Coast Guard won the opener in eight innings, 7-6, rallying from a 6-3 deficit. Brandon Biggane hit a two-run homer for Bates, and also drove in two runs in Game 2.
SOFTBALL
MAINE LOSES TWICE: The Black Bears (7-20, 0-2 America East) were held to eight hits while losing a doubleheader at Binghamton (13-7, 2-0), 9-1 and 4-3.
Binghamton rallied in Game 2, tying the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth before winning it in the seventh. Katie Jo Moery hit a two-run homer in the first inning for Maine.
Moery also scored the Black Bears’ only run in Game 1, on a fifth-inning sacrifice fly by Maggie Helms.
USM SWEEPS UNE: Lauren Merrill pitched a five-inning one-hitter and had a pair of RBI singles in Game 1 to lead Southern Maine (4-8) to a 10-0 win over the University of New England (2-12) in Biddeford.
Kendall Migliorini drove in three runs with a single and a double, and Meghan Dufresne went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBI and two runs.
In Game 2, Rona Scott’s three-run double highlighted a seven-run fifth inning that sent USM to an 10-4 win.
Hannah Shields was 3 for 4 with two RBI for USM. Abby Miner led UNE with two hits and two RBI. Miner and Emma Koenig each had an RBI triple for the Nor’easters.
BOWDOIN SPLITS: Angelina Mayers belted a three-run homer and Lilly Armstrong was 3 for 4 with two RBI, leading Bowdoin (9-9, 2-2 NESCAC) to a 9-4 win over Amherst (13-3, 1-1) in a doubleheader opener in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Amherst won the second game, 5-0.
MEN’S HOCKEY
HOBART 3, ADRIAN 2: Wil Crane scored 14:56 into overtime as the Statesmen (29-2) beat defending champion Adrian (25-5-2) in Beverly, Massachusetts, to win their first NCAA Division III title.
Adrian, which eliminated the University of New England 8-7 in overtime in the semifinals, rallied from an early 2-0 deficit. Matus Spodniak tied it with 5:30 left in regulation.
