Residents in the Waldo County town of Freedom will need to look for pizza and macadamia chocolate chip cookies elsewhere, following the announcement Monday that the owner of the Freedom General Store plans to close up shop for good.

In a Facebook post, owner Carrie Cowell-Bennett said she made the decision to close the store “after many months of consideration and soul searching.” The store, known as the hangout in town, is located at 27 Belfast Road, which is also Route 137.

“Given the current state of the economy and workforce, it’s time to move on to something new,” the store’s post says.

The store will be open this from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering 50% off all of its groceries and hardware. “Our final day will depend greatly on how quickly the inventory goes,” the post reads.
