A police chase that began early Sunday in Albion ended when a pickup truck crashed in Montville and the driver fled on foot, leaving behind an injured passenger, according to police.
A state trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop at about 1 a.m. on Bog Road in Albion after seeing the Ford pickup truck being operated erratically, Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, wrote in a statement released Monday to the news media.
“The vehicle failed to stop, picked up speed and then continued driving south,” Moss wrote. “The trooper pursued the vehicle through several towns until the vehicle crashed on the Halldale Road in Montville.”
Halldale Road is about 10 miles from Bog Road in Albion.
The driver was identified as Melissa Keller, 37, who ran from the scene.
Her passenger, Leroy Malcolm, 39, was trapped inside the pickup truck, according to Moss.
Keller was located shortly after the crash and both were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Keller had five outstanding warrants and seven sets of bail conditions at the time of the crash, Moss said. Additional charges are pending.
Moss did not know Keller’s hometown and no other information was available Monday.
