The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will host an Outdoor Concert Series at Haley Pond Park gazebo over a series of Mondays in July and August.
Those who attend can being a folding chair and enjoy music again during 5 free outdoor concerts this summer.
The following shows start at 7 p.m.
July 19 and Aug. 23 – The Sandy River Ramblers
The Ramblers are Maine’s longest-lasting bluegrass band, having been performing regularly since 1983. “As far as we know, we’re the only bluegrass band ever to play continuously for 38 years,” said bandleader Stan Keach, who plays guitar and sings lead and harmony parts for the Ramblers, in a news release.
The Ramblers also feature two outstanding female lead vocalists, upright bass player Julie Davenport, and Dana Reynolds, currently a student at UMO. Mandolinist Dan Simons and banjo player Bud Godsoe carry most of the lead instrumental load, and they do it with ferocious velocity and stunning technical prowess. Keach, a nationally-known bluegrass songwriter and an inductee in the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame, writes many original songs about Maine, which the ramblers feature regularly in their concerts and on their CDs.
July 26 and Aug. 16 – Jazz Time 99
Jazz Time 99 is a dynamic group of musicians who share a love for a diverse variety of music from the blues to funk to some experimental jazz. This experienced group of local musicians has been playing since childhood.
Aug. 9 – Sami Stevens and Kazemde George – Jazz Vocals and Saxophone
A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Stevens has performed with world renowned jazz pianist Jason Moran and six-time Grammy nominee Fred Hersch, recorded with eclectic Foetus composer J.G. Thirwell, “King of Treme” Shannon Powell, and underground legend Gary Wilson, opened for Grammy nominated folk singer Greg Brown and Black Star MC Talib Kweli, and collaborated with Simon Hanes of Gorilla Toss/Cloud Becomes Your Hand/Tredici Bacci and world champ drummer Thomas Pridgen.
