MONMOUTH — Brooklyn Federico threw a one-hitter while striking out 12, and Emma Johnson had a home run among her two hits to lead the Monmouth softball team to a 12-3 victory over Mountain Valley on Monday.
Federico had three hits for Monmouth (1-0), while Kayla Truman had a double among two hits. Abby Flanagan had a triple and Katie Laliberte had a double for the Mustangs, who totaled 11 hits.
Autumn Freeman had a triple for Mountain Valley (0-1).
MADISON 33, MT. ABRAM 0: Lilian Levesque drove in five runs and Brooke McKenney struck out 12 as Madison rolled to a season-opening victory in Strong.
Landyn Landry, Arabel Linkletter and Jersey Tewksbury each drove in four runs for Madison as well.
Levesque had three hits, including a triple. Linkletter and Tewksbury each doubled as well for the Bulldogs, which scored eight runs in the first inning and 14 in the second.
