A book and pie sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at St. Giles Episcopal Church, 72 Gardiner Road in Jefferson.
Books, pies, and made-to-order picnic sandwiches, another Lu Archer quilt and more will be available.
The home-baked pie collection will include the usual favorites, with pre-orders available.
Lu Archer, a well-known master quilter, has donated quilts for St. Giles fundraisers for more than 40 years. This year the church will raffle a lightweight herringbone-pattern lap quilt that Archer created for the 2014 St. Giles Fair. Now its owner is offering the quilt to be raffled once again. Its estimated value is $400. Tickets cost $5 each or $20 for five. The drawing will be held at 2 p.m. at the end of the sale. The winner does not need to be present.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
