Investigators from State Fire Marshal’s Office are scheduled to return to a home on Ford Hill Road in Hartland on Monday following a fire that left a family of three homeless Saturday morning.
Hartland Fire Chief Tim Kuespert said the single-story, wood frame house was home to Bryan Spencer and his wife, Heather, and their 8-month old son, Eben. No one was home when the fire started and no one was injured, Kuespert said Sunday morning.
Kuespert said the fire appears to have started somewhere in the basement just after 7 a.m. Saturday and “worked up through the floor and into the bedroom.”
He said the final word on the fire’s origin and cause and extent of interior damage will have to come from the fire marshal’s office. Kuespert said the home was insured but is uninhabitable following the blaze. Fire crews from Hartland, St. Albans, Canaan and Pittsfield responded to the scene.
A local Red Cross Disaster Action Response Team member assisted the family with finding a safe place to sleep overnight, food and other essentials.
The Red Cross said it will stay in contact with the family to provide financial assistance and community referrals over the next several days.
