AUGUSTA — Voters on Tuesday approved borrowing $337,750 from the state school revolving renovation fund to fix the roof at Hussey Elementary School.

The city, under the program’s rules, will have to pay back only $167,321 of the loan, payable over five years, with no interest. The state will forgive the other $170,429 through the program, which is funded through the Maine Municipal Bond Bank and is meant to help schools make sure their buildings are healthy and safe for students.

Residents approved the proposal by a vote of 876-214, according to unofficial results.

The question passed easily in all four of the city’s wards.
