The state stands to lose funding for a range of programs and services, but would benefit from a beefed-up military budget.

Among programs on the chopping block is the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP, which has served as a critical safety net for Mainers during harsh winters.

The president proposes a reduction of more than 30 percent for the Environmental Protection Agency and eliminating future federal support for the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The White House responds that the president, as ‘one of the most successful businessmen in the world,’ paid ‘no more tax than legally required.’
