Joe Almand was a Skowhegan firefighter when he suffered extensive injuries last year in a fall along the Kennebec River Gorge, but he recovered and set a new path for himself that's led to the opening of Joe's Flat Iron Cafe downtown.

Former Pittsfield police Chief Bickmore dies at 65
Harold "Pete" Bickmore died of cancer Wednesday following a distinguished career with the FBI where he served for a quarter-century before becoming the police chief in Pittsfield in 2016.
