Crime in Maine on the decline, but still driven by drug abuse

The public safety commissioner says the drug abuse epidemic continues to be an issue for Maine law enforcement.

The victim had a criminal history that included drug charges.

The victim, a 32-year-old woman, declined treatment, police say.

Brian J. Bennett was last seen running down his driveway toward the road.

Among other crimes, Stephen McIntire, 55, took videos of people in their homes near the Bowdoin College campus.

Michael S. Minson didn’t have a license and was speeding to work when he lost control of the car.

Timothy Even, 27, denied having a relationship with a 17-year-old girl until police confronted him with graphic text messages they had exchanged.

Antonio Gordon distributed 19 grams of the drug on three occasions in December 2014 and January 2015, authorities say.

Timothy Normand Jr., who lives nearby and apparently had been drinking, broke into the home twice, police say.

Police confirm that they were investigating Ronald H. Smith of Westbrook, who died Thursday morning.
