SNAPSHOT: Homeless shelter
Amy Hopkins clutches her dog to her chest Monday at the Augusta Community Warming Center. Hopkins, her husband and son were evicted Monday from their room in Augusta, she said, following a dispute with another tenant at a boarding house. “We’re homeless,” she said. The Hopkinses took turns heating up between holding the dog, which she said isn’t permitted in the center, as temperatures struggled to reach double digits. The cold is forecast to persist for the remainder of the week.
