In past years, the Kennebec Valley Chamber has organized the Kid’s Day in Capitol Park but, new last year, the Kid’s Day in Capitol Park was transformed to Kennebec River Day. The Kennebec River Day brings the tradition back to the Kennebec River as it is held at Mill Park along the mighty river. Scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 30, the Kennebec River Day is an event for all ages.
With three stages of live music and entertainment, event goers can expect to be entertained throughout the day by a variety of performances, including dance performances, a karate demonstration, country music and a special performance of covers from all genres by the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast.
Touch-a-Truck brings a toy truck collection to life. The Augusta Fire Department will be on hand with its fire truck and ambulance displays. They will also demonstrate the Jaws of Life on a real vehicle. Other specialty trucks will be on site, including an O&P glass truck and a Zamboni from the Maine Ice Vault.
There will be dozens of free games and activities throughout the park. A 150-foot inflatable military-style obstacle course with tires, giant barriers, a robe swing and a vertical wall to climb will be available for friends to challenge each other and see who has the skills to win. The knights in shining armor put on an amazing show jousting, fencing and more in period costumes. Other activities include making slime, disc golf, face painting, a dunk tank, meet and greet with retired race dogs and lawn games.
If people work up an appetite taking part in all of the activities, there will be a lot of food to choose from! Food vendors will be serving up dishes ranging from the traditional burger and fries to Philippine food, to fried pickles, to Mac & Cheese and so many more delicious options.
