The FBI on Saturday released a compilation of enhanced surveillance videos of the suspect in the recent string of nine armed robberies in Greater Portland.

The three-minute video highlights details captured by security cameras, including a logo on a jacket and the style of gloves the suspect wore. Police in six communities continue to investigate the armed robberies with the assistance of the FBI.

Police say the robber is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. No one has been hurt in the robberies, but police are concerned that a confrontation could turn violent.

Police have not said definitively that the robberies are the work of a lone suspect, but they do believe the crimes are connected. Their comments about “a desperate person” and the consistent details and witness descriptions all suggest they are looking for a serial robber.

The robberies have left owners and employees of small convenience stores, gas stations and coffee shops shaken.

The video begins with the robber entering the Riverton Gas Station wearing a hood and mask over his face. The video is enhanced to highlight his black and white sneakers, the logo on the sleeve of his jacket and the stripes on his gloves. It shows the suspect reaching into a cash register drawer and picking up money off the floor.

The robber is described as a white man between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-9 with a thin build, blue eyes and light colored hair.

The string of robberies began on the night of March 20, when the masked man entered the Riverton Gas Station on Forest Avenue in Portland armed with a silver handgun. Other robberies were reported at Lil’ Mart in Falmouth; Good Things Variety, Subway and the Daily Grind in Westbrook; Express Mart in Cumberland; China Taste in Portland; Aroma Joe’s in South Portland; and China Eatery in Old Orchard Beach.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 774-9322. Portland police can be contacted after hours and on weekends at 874-8575.
