Southern Maine Association of Shakespearean homeschoolers will present its 25th anniversary production of Shakespeare’s “Much ado About Nothing.” Performances are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, March 22-23, and 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Monmouth Theater’s Cumstom Hall, 796 Main St in Monmouth.
The comedic play by William Shakespeare is about true love, slander, power of forgiveness and paying attention.
SMASH is a small theater group comprised of homeschool families who come together from the far reaches of central Maine. They learn all the aspects of putting a play on the stage. Their director, a Pastor in Winthrop, has been doing this program for children for 25 years. Through their work, the students discover Shakespeare, but they also find interests and talents, and hone abilities and skills.
Students have been rehearsing every Monday and Friday since the new year, after receiving their roles in mid-October.
The program was founded, and continues to be directed by Pastor Samuel Richards. It is a board run nonprofit organization.
