Two town posts in Belgrade are the subjects of contested races on the March 16 ballot: a one-year term on the Select Board and a one-year term for road commissioner.

Voters will be able to hear from those candidates as well as those running unopposed at a candidates’ night event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Town Office.

Melanie Jewell, a former Select Board member, and Jordan Stolt, who was in a three-way race last March to fill a seat that had one year remaining, are vying to fill a seat being vacated by Ernie Rice. There is one year remaining in his term.

Jewell served on the board for nine years until March 2014.

Stolt, 25, is a real estate agent with Lakepoint Real Estate and a member of the board of directors of the Belgrade Lakes Region Business Group. She graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in political science and worked for former U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, D-2nd District, in his Washington, D.C., and Bangor offices.

Ernst Merckens, who won the three-way election last year, is running again — this time for a full three-year term.

Kathleen Wall is running unopposed for a three-year term on the Select Board. Gary Mahler, the current board chairman, is not seeking re-election.

Maurice Childs is seeking re-election to a one-year term as road commissioner and being challenged by Kevin Hawes, who has been road commissioner in the past.

Voting for candidates and several other items takes place March 16 at the Town Office as part of Town Meeting, which then continues at 1 p.m. March 17 at the Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons.
