Two area men have been charged with felony burglary and theft after an investigation that began in January in Palmyra.

Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said Trevor Moore, 24, of Hermon, was issued a summons to appear in court on the charges and Michael McGregor, 23, of Pittsfield, was charged at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham, where he is serving time on a probation violation.

Lancaster said that on Jan. 16 the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a burglary at Pea Pods Storage on Main Street in Palmyra. Deputy Garrett Buzzell took the initial complaint and collected evidence at the scene, he said. The victim reported that a new Samsung refrigerator, a Maytag washer and dryer and several smaller items had been stolen from his storage unit.

Lancaster said the value of the items was estimated at $5,000. Detective Michael Ross and Cpl. David Cole were assigned to follow up on the investigation. During the course of the investigation, two suspects were identified. Ross and Cole interviewed Moore and Ross interviewed McGregor. During the interviews, both men confessed to their involvement in the burglary, Lancaster said.

In August all of the stolen appliances were recovered when a search warrant was executed at a home in Corinna where the appliances were being used. All of the appliances were returned to the owners.

After discussions with the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office, Moore and McGregor were each charged with burglary, class C, and theft, class C.
