Augusta Amateur Radio Association’s annual Windsor Hamfest will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Windsor Fairgrounds, 92 Ridge Road, Windsor. Talk-in will be on the KQ1L repeater system.

The association has put on this event for more than 40 years. It offers ham radio operators from Maine and New Hampshire the chance to get together for an “eyeball” contact, and annually draws 250 or more licensed operators. It will feature a radio and computer oriented flea market, with no charge to sellers other than gate admission, $5, with children younger than 16 admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.

FCC amateur radio exams will take place at 10 a.m., directly after the combined meeting of the Sea Gull Net, the Pine Tree Net, and the Maine Slow Speed Net. Door prizes will be drawn at noon, and the winning tickets must be present to receive the prizes. Top prize will be a professional quality weather station, courtesy of Main Trading Company of Paris, Texas.

Light refreshments will be available throughout the morning from the Whitefield Lions Club.

AARA uses the proceeds from the hamfest to support amateur radio activities in the Central Maine area.
