AUGUSTA — Two men from New York are in the Kennbec County jail and one is awaiting a request for extradition to New York following complaints Tuesday morning of adverse driving in central Augusta.
After receiving reports from drivers about the erratic operation by a driver in a dark Jeep Cherokee, Augusta police found the vehicle near the intersection of State and Winthrop streets, the department said in a news release Tuesday.
The driver, identified as Terry Wilson, 20, of New York, was arrested on charges of operating after suspension and operating under the influence.
Wilson’s passenger, Justin Lugo, 20, with addresses in Augusta and New York, was arrested on a charge of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs after a search of the vehicle, with the help of a Maine State Police dog, showed that illegal drugs were there.
Police said they found 13 grams of crack cocaine, with a street value of $1,400.
Lugo was found to be on probation after his conviction on a past conspiracy to commit murder charge, and an arrest warrant had been issued by New York authorities. Lugo was taken into custody on a fugitive from justice warrant and is being held at the Kennebec County jail pending extradition to New York.
The bail for Wilson, who is being held at the Kennebec County jail, was set at $1,500.
