Medomak Valley Land Trust will host a half-day Forestry for Maine Birds workshop in partnership with the Forest Stewards Guild at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Burkett Mill Preserve.

Participants can join a forester and a wildlife biologist for a morning workshop on Forestry for Maine Birds and learn the basics of forest habitat assessment, bird-friendly forestry, and how to see Maine’s forests for the birds.

Forestry for Maine Birds pairs silviculture, the art and science of forest management, with the habitat needs of Maine’s migratory forest songbirds.

This workshop is well-suited for a wide arrange of participants, including professional foresters, woodland owners, homestead harvesters, land trust members and bird enthusiasts.

Directions: From Waldoboro village, head north on Main Street, and veer right onto Old Route 1. At the end of this road, turn right onto Goshen Road. Stay on Goshen Road for 1.8 miles, and stay straight on the unpaved Burkett Mill Road where Goshen Road curves sharply left. Parking for the preserve is located on the left, 0.3 miles down the road.

For more information, contact the land trust’s Waldoboro office at 832-5570 or info@medomakvalley.org.
