UNITY — A Walk on the Wild Side: Exploring Wildflowers is scheduled from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Rines Wetland and Wildlife Preserve.

Participants can join members of the Sebasticook Regional Land Trust on a field trip to the newest trust acquisition, the Rines Wetland and Wildlife Preserve. This walk can introduce participants to the sublime beauty of wildflowers, wildlife and habitats ranging from upland to bog. Wildflowers should be plentiful along the trail as Heather McCargo, wildflower expert and director of the Wild Seed Project, leads a tour.

McCargo is an educator with 30 years of expertise in plant propagation, landscape design and conservation.

The preserve was acquired by the trust in 2016 from Jackie Ingraham and Linda Berry. Preservation of this land honors their family’s love of nature and wildlife. Situated between 25 Mile Stream and Fowler Bog, the preserve provides a vital link to a 1,500-acre corridor of now permanently conserved natural habitat.

After the walk, anyone interested in further conversation with McCargo is welcome to join the group at 93 Main Coffee Shop in Unity.

Directions from Unity: Take Route 139 west about 2.4 miles from Main Street. The Rines Preserve is on the south side of the road. Parking is available across Route 139, at Moulton’s Mill Preserve.

Suggested donations of $5 will be accepted for the hike.
