Police are looking for a man who led a New Hampshire state trooper on a high-speed chase into Maine before jumping out of his car and running into the woods in York early Wednesday morning.

New Hampshire state trooper Matt Locke attempted to stop a gold 2003 Hyundai Elantra on Interstate 95 near Hampton at 12:15 a.m. The driver was having “significant” lane control issues and the Maine registration plates belonged to another vehicle, he said.

The driver refused to stop and drove over 100 mph north toward Maine. Locke called for assistance from Portsmouth police and Maine State Troopers as the pursuit crossed into Maine.

About 2 miles north of the York toll plaza, the Hyundai lost a front tire. As the car slowed, the suspect jumped from the passenger side door and ran into the woods, police said. A K-9 unit from the Wells Police Department was called in to search the area, but the suspect was not found.

The driver is described by police as a white man wearing jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head and face.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Locke at 603-223-8490 or matthew.locke@dos.nh.gov.
