FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield man was arrested over the weekend on various domestic violence related charges that involved the seizure of a handgun.
William Nelson Hansen, 46, was arrested on Dec. 18 on charges of domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, domestic violence reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and criminal mischief.
Fairfield Police Capt. Paul St. Amand said that Hansen was arrested in Madison by a Somerset County Sheriff’s deputy on the Fairfield charges. St. Amand said a woman called to report Hansen, her live-in boyfriend, had assaulted her. At the time of Hansen’s arrest, police seized a handgun.
St. Amand said the handgun was not used during the assault, but that Hansen allegedly broke the glass top of a coffee table with the gun, which resulted in the criminal mischief charge. St. Amand said Hansen allegedly was armed during the assault. He said the victim refused medical treatment.
Hansen was taken to the Somerset County Jail in East Madison, where he remained Monday. Hansen was scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 15. The reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon is a felony, while the charges are class D misdemeanors.
