A Livermore Falls man who was struck by a police cruiser over the weekend died Monday afternoon at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Chief Deputy William Gagne of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that Joseph Slaver, 24, died of his injuries.

A Livermore Falls police cruiser driven by Officer Troy Reed, hit Slaver at 11:55 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Park Street in Livermore Falls, according to Gagne. Slaver was transported by ambulance to the Lewiston hospital.

Gagne said Reed was traveling southbound when Slaver “entered the roadway and the two collided.”

“Mr. Slaver walked into the side of the cruiser,” Gagne said.

The incident is being investigated by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and the Lewiston Police Department.

In a news release Monday night, Gagne said Slaver had been attending a gathering and was dressed in black clothing Friday night. At some point, Slaver left the gathering and walked across the street. Gagne said the ongoing investigation determined that Park Street in the area of the crash was dark “with little to no street lights.”

“Slaver entered the roadway on foot, presumably to return to the gathering,” Gagne said. “Slaver struck the passenger side front fender, … passenger mirror area of the Livermore Falls Police Department cruiser.”

The District Attorney’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office have been advised – as is the case with all motor vehicle fatalities – and are involved with the ongoing investigation.
