For 21 years Georgie the Goose stood on the lawn at 71 Eastern Ave., in Augusta, delighting commuters and children who passed by. The cement goose was dressed every morning by Marjorie Scott and her family, who made more than 100 outfits for Georgie to mark holidays, local graduations, special occasions and famous characters. Scott, who came to be known as the ‘Goose Lady’ for her creative costumes, received numerous cards from children and adults, who enjoyed seeing what Georgie wore each day. Last January, when Scott passed away at the age of 95, her family decided to donate the goose to the nearby Farrington Elementary School. The goose greeted teachers, students and parents on the first day of school in Scott’s favorite outfit: its pink plaid school dress. Teachers and students now carry on Scott’s tradition and outfit Georgie each morning. “I think Mum would love this,” said Scott’s daughter Linda McMullen, of Oakland,. “She used enjoy seeing the children wave and smile as they saw the goose each day.”
