Pittsfield Congregational Church will host singing duo Nightingale, comprised of internationally known singers Abbie Stands of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Kristyn Murphy of Pittsfield, Maine. The concert is set for 7 p.m. Friday, June 19, at the church. Nightingale will present a concert of Broadway, celtic, jazz and pop music. Tickets cost $10 and are available at www.nightingaleduo.com, at Pennywise, or through the church by calling 487-6947.
The concert, which is a part of a new series of fundraiser shows the duo will give during the 2015/16 performing season, is a part of a project that aims to preserve history and culture through the fine arts.
“We are performing a series of shows at venues that are important to communities, that help nurture and preserve culture, such as old theatres, museums, libraries, churches, and heritage centers,” said Murphy in a news release.
“We have formed Nightingale in hopes of exposing the public to new music, much loved and forgotten songs, and creating a greater appreciation for all enres. We in turn desire to help preserve buildings and sites of cultural importance through this concert series,” said Strands in the release.
Those who attend can expect a variety of entertaining vocal numbers from Nightingale as well as solos from each individual artist. Audiences will hear the beloved “Secret Love” made famous by Doris Day, the late 1800’s piece “In the Starlight” known and loved by fans of Laura Ingalls Wilder, classic pop pieces such as Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now”, favorite Irish and Broadway tunes as well as original pieces.
