Maranacook Community High School senior Natalie Wicks, of Readfield, was recently selected to receive the 2015 Principal’s Award, according to a news release from Principal Dwayne Conway. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
“Natalie is the valedictorian for the class of 2015 at Maranacook Community High School. I cannot think of another student more deserving of that title and accomplishment than her. She is extremely hardworking and an involved student who is a role model to her peers. Natalie is a diverse and well-balanced student. She is the student body president, the varsity girl’s soccer captain and Nordic ski captain, member of the Reducing Sexism and Violence Project group, and a peer tutor.” Conway said in the release.
Wicks along with her father, Mark Wicks who is retiring from MCHS this year and other award winners attended an honors luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor April 11.
The luncheon recognized these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the association. This year an additional five $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament and support from Berlin City Auto.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association, which represents Maine’s school administrators.
