The University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Ingraham’s Equipment in Knox will offer a tractor and farm machinery safety course for youth and adults.
The class will run from 5 to 7 p.m. for five Wednesdays starting April 22. It continues May 6, 13, 20 and with a final exam on May 27. Participants will receive a manual and be expected to operate machinery during the class.
Although this class is designed for young adults, age 14-16 who want to earn a federal certificate so they can operate farm machinery as part of their employment on a farm, it also draws many adults and new farmers who want to learn how to drive tractors and operate implements.
There is a $20 enrollment fee to cover the manual and some safety equipment. Register online at umaine.edu/Waldo and click Tractor Safety Training or call 800-287-1426. Anyone with a disability who will need any accommodations to participate, needs to call as soon as possible to assure fullest possible attention to needs.
