PORTLAND — In recognition of Autism Awareness month, Spurwink will present the Sprout Touring Film Festival, which will showcase a variety of films by, for and about people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, including autism. “These entertaining short films offer insight into the lives and abilities of people living with autism and other developmental and intellectual disabilities,” said Spurwink President Eric Meyer in a news release from the organization. “This year, in honor of Autism Awareness Month, each program will feature several films starring people with autism. We are honored to partner with Sprout to bring these wonderful, entertaining, often humorous, sometimes poignant, stories to the public.”

Admission is free for all screenings, and donations will be accepted.

“By presenting films of artistry and intellect, the festival hopes to reinforce accurate portrayals of people with developmental disabilities and expose the general public to important issues facing this population,” said Anthony DiSalvo, founder of the Sprout Film Festival, in the release. “The goal is an enjoyable and enlightening experience that will help break down stereotypes, promoting a greater acceptance of differences and awareness of similarities. We are pleased to be working with Spurwink again this year and bringing the films to Maine.”

• Program 1, 1-2 p.m., Program 2, 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, Lincoln Auditorium, University of Maine at Farmington.

• Program 1, 11 a.m., Program 2, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16, Franco Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St., Lewiston.
