My name is Erin Schott and I am an eighth-grade student at Maine Connections Academy, the new virtual public charter school.

I love Maine Connections Academy because, since we didn’t have resources or live near a performing arts school, MCA helped us build our own. I attend ballet four or five days per week, and I can arrange my school work around rehearsals and performances. I was pleasantly surprised to receive lots of encouragement and support from my teachers, which keep me motivated to face my assignments day after day.

I was in “The Nutcracker” ballet this year; my third time. I was an angel. This meant I got to perform with the Sugar Plum Fairy, which one day I hope to be.

I started dancing at age 3 in Iowa. I started with ballet, tap and gymnastics. When I moved to Maine, I added musical theater through Midcoast Youth Theater. I also play piano and participate in a local chorus and band. I love to use my creative side to choreograph music, write and perform poetry, and put together song mash-ups while listening to the radio.

One of the things that attracted me to Maine Connections Academy was the elective classes and customized learning. As a visual learner, I appreciate that the lessons are visually supported with pictures and diagrams. This helps a lot. My teachers encourage me to use my creative side.

I am very thankful for Maine Connections Academy and school choice because it allows me to continue with school and follow my passions.
