The Portland Symphony Orchestra’s 2015-16 concert season will feature music by Beethoven, Brahms and Rachmaninoff, as well as the late John Denver and a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds” album, one of the most influential records in pop music history.

The 2015-16 season runs from October to April and includes eight classical concerts and four pops concerts, along with the holiday-themed “Magic of Christmas.”

The schedule continues music director Robert Moody’s focus on Beethoven. Beginning with the current season, Moody has scheduled all nine Beethoven symphonies over three years. Beethoven’s First Symphony will launch the season Oct. 11, and the concert will be repeated Oct. 13. The PSO will perform Beethoven’s Eighth on Jan. 24 and Jan. 26, and Beethoven’s Fifth on May 1 and May 3, 2016.

In addition to the three Beethoven concerts, the classical concerts include Brahms Second Concerto, Rachmaninoff’s Third, and Grieg’s Suites No. 1 and No. 2 from Peer Gynt, as well as an “Enchanted Favorites” concert featuring dancers from Portland Ballet and Prokofiev’s Suite from “Cinderella.”

The POPS! series will feature music by John Denver, a tribute to the Beach Boys to mark the 50th anniversary of “Pet Sounds” and a concert of music by film composer John Williams.

All concerts will be at Merrill Auditorium. Season subscriptions are on sale. Individual tickets go on sale Aug. 3.
