As part of the station’s fourth “School Spirit Challenge,” WGME TV will broadcast live from 6 to 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, from Kents Hill School. The challenge is a friendly competition with nine other high schools from Maine to see who can raise the most pounds of food for the Good Shepherd Food Bank by Feb. 27, according to a news release from the school. Challenge organizers hope to raise one million pounds total.
“We are looking forward to sharing what makes Kents Hill unique and raising awareness about hunger in Maine,” said Head of School Patrick C. McInerney, in the release.
Students will gather at the Alfond Athletics Center for a variety of activities at the Jean Hawley Gannett Gymnasium as well as the Bonnefond Ice Arena. During the live broadcast Kents Hill will share what makes our school distinctive through a variety of activities and performances. Following the broadcast the Zebra Team will announce the theme and teams for this year’s Winter Carnival.
It will be possible to watch the challenge online at www.wgme.com/news/features/school-spirit-challenge/.
Area businesses are encouraged to support the school’s efforts and contribute to fighting hunger in Maine. It will be possible to present a check on-air.
Members of the community are encouraged to drop off canned goods at Bearce Hall prior to the event or stop by the event Friday at the Alfond Athletics Center. For information, call Anna Iredale at 685-1618. The school will continue to collect canned goods until Feb. 27.
For every dollar donated the Food Bank is able to distribute food for four meals. It’s possible to donate to the effort through an online food drive at bit.ly/kentshillfooddrive.
