SKOWHEGAN — A Biddeford woman was arrested Wednesday evening in downtown Skowhegan on a drug-trafficking charge.

Tonia Robin Berryman, 27, allegedly had heroin in her possession, Police Chief Ted Blais said Thursday. She was stopped just before 6 p.m. by Skowhegan police Officer Ryan Dinsmore at the request of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, which is handling the case.

Deputy David Cole, of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, conducted a search of Berryman’s vehicle with his drug-sniffing dog, Ruger. The dog found drugs, according to Dale Lancaster at the sheriff’s office.

Blais did not know how much heroin was found because it is an MDEA case.

Berryman was taken to the Somerset County Jail in East Madison, where she was booked on a charge of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs. She had not posted bail by early Thursday, according to the jail booking log, which is available online. No one could be reached at the jail Thursday afternoon to say whether Berryman had been released on bail, had appeared in court or had a lawyer.
