PITTSFIELD — Jonathan Santiago rushed for 230 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries as the Maine Central Institute football team continued its impressive start to the season with a 42-6 win over Dexter in a Little Ten Conference Class D game Friday night.

Greg Vigue also threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Huskies (2-0).

“Tensions were high at the beginning of the game and we had to maintain our poise,” MCI coach Tom Bertrand “We were able to move the football and our defense was able to swarm to the ball. It’s a good win for us. We knew it would be a battle, and it was.”

The teams were scoreless after the first quarter but Santiago helped give the Huskies a 14-0 lead early in the second when he rushed for touchdowns of 4 and 44 yards.

Austin Tolman hauled in a 71-yard touchdown pass from Vigue to cap the second quarter scoring.

Eric Hathaway rushed for a 17-yard touchdown in the third before Santiago rushed for 36-yard score to give MCI a 35-6 lead after three quarters.

Mitchell Hallee caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Vigue in the fourth quarter.

MADISON/CARRABEC 46, OLD TOWN 42: After building a big lead late in the game, the Bulldogs barely hung on to beat the Coyotes in Madison.

“It was pretty crazy,” Madison/Carrabec coach Scott Franzose said. “We had the halftime lead, we had an 18-point lead with 1:10 left and kind of folded up a little bit.”

Cody Soucier’s six-yard touchdown run gave Madison (1-1) a 46-28 lead, but with 1:10 remaining Jake Jarvis connected with Andre Miller on a 30-yard completion to cut the deficit to just 10 points after the two-point conversion with 1:10 remaining.

Old Town (1-1) proceeded to recover the ensuing kick and quickly scored when Jarvis found Tim Ellis for a 35-yard pass, but the Coyotes simply ran out of time in their improbable comeback bid.

ORONO 58, MT. VIEW 44: The Mustangs came up short in their comeback bid in a wild Little Ten Conference game in Orono.

The Red Riots (2-0) jumped out to a 38-6 lead in the first half but by the break Mt. View (0-1) managed to cut the deficit to 38-28. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, that would be as close as they would get as Orono managed hold on for the win.

“We played with them right there,” Mt. View coach Haggie Pratt said. “It was back and forth the rest of the game.”

Tyler Ripley led the Mustangs with three touchdowns and a two-point conversion, while Trevor Saucier had two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Gavin Simpson added a touchdown and a two-point conversion.

BREWER — Austin Pagnozzi scored from four yards out on Brewer’s third play of overtime to give the Witches a 46-40 win over Cony in a wild Pine Tree Conference Class B game Friday night.

The Rams (1-1) tied the game with one second remaining in regulation when Mitchell Caron threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Brunelle. The extra point attempt that would have put them ahead sailed wide right. Cony got the ball first in overtime and was stopped on four plays by the Witches (1-1).

Caron ran for three touchdowns and threw for three. Brunelle was on the receiving end of two of those scores, including a Hail Mary at the end of the first half. Reid Shostak caught the other.

“It was back and forth the whole game,” Cony coach Robby Vachon said. “Give Brewer credit. They ran the ball right at us the whole game. We didn’t tackle very well.”

The Rams were playing without wide receiver/linebacker/kick returner Tayler Carrier, who had to sit out the game after being ejected from last Friday’s game.
