AUGUSTA — A 17-year-old Augusta boy riding a moped on Civic Center Drive died Tuesday after he was struck by a pickup truck as he was turning across the road into the parking lot of the Rusty Lantern convenience store on Civic Center Drive.
According to a news release issued by the Augusta Police Department, the collision happened about 3:15 p.m.
A Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Benjamin Perry, 47, of Farmingdale, was headed south on Civic Center Drive toward Interstate 95 when it struck the youth on the moped.
Perry was not hurt in the crash, but the youth sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center by Augusta Rescue, where he later died from his injuries.
Augusta police declined to identify the youth.
In the news release, Augusta police Chief Kevin Lully said his department is still investigating the crash, which was reconstructed by the Maine State Police.
Lully asked anyone with information about the crash to contact the Augusta Police Department.
