MADISON — At least two masked men brandishing firearms robbed the Big Apple on Old Point Avenue early Saturday, according to a Somerset County Sheriff’s official.
Law enforcement officials responded to the scene at 17 Old Point Ave. and collected evidence, including surveillance footage, Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office said later Saturday.
“As far as we know, they fled on foot,” Mitchell said, adding that there was no evidence showing a vehicle right outside the store.
The men who brandished firearms during the 3 a.m. robbery left with an undisclosed amount of cash and store merchandise, according to Mitchell. No one was hurt, he said.
The Big Apple, which also has gasoline pumps, is near the intersection of Main Street downtown.
Mitchell said just before 4 p.m. Saturday that there were no suspects in the robbery. He said anyone with information about the crime may call the Sheriff’s Office at 474-9591. If someone wants to leave a tip anonymously, they may call 474-0230.
“We’re looking for anything the public can help us out with, “ Mitchell said. “ We don’t have anything leading us to the identity of these people.”
He also said authorities don’t know the direction of travel the robbers took after leaving on foot.
