Free Collections Care Workshop at L.C.Bates Museum
HINCKLEY — A free collections care workshop is set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, June 23, at L.C.Bates Museum.
Conservator Ron Harvey of Tuckerbrook Conservation will present the workshop Caring for and Storing Your Organic Objects. The event is open to all and would be of special interest to people who care for or have museum or family treasures. Harvey will explore the special needs of organic objects ranging from clothing to leather boxes and natural history collections to fabric arts materials. The presentation will include demonstrations and a hands-on storage activity.
Participants can bring photos of their objects with storage or preservation issues for the conservator to discuss. The workshop will include an opportunity to prepare the interior of a small acid free box for safe object storage for an item in your collection.
Morning refreshments will be provided, bring your lunch and questions for the conservator. There will be door prizes offered by University Products. The workshop is through a partnership between Maine Archives and Museums and the L.C. Bates Museum and funded by a grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
