READFIELD — Maranacook scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a 2-1 win over Maine Central Institute in softball action Thursday.
Alexis Michaud earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on six hits while striking out four. Annie Brann had two hits for the Black Bears (1-0), who stole five bases.
MCI (0-1) was led at the plate by Hannah Robinson with two hits. Kassie Snowman took the loss, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out seven.
RICHMOND 23, TEMPLE 1: Izzy Stewart tossed a one-hitter as the Bobcats (1-1) earned a mercy rule-shortened win at Richmond.
Kara Briand had a pair of doubles for Richmond.
Karissa Dewitt had a double for Temple (0-1).
BASEBALL
LAWRENCE 12, OCEANSIDE 1: Ben Ryder threw a one-hitter and struck out five batters as the Bulldogs (2-0) won easily in Rockland.
Parker Higgins had a pair of doubles and Michael Hamlin added two hits and three RBIs for Lawrence. Gavin Wilson also doubled for the Bulldogs.
Oceanside is 0-2.
HAMPDEN ACADEMY 4, MT. BLUE 3: Collin Peckham had two hits and three RBIs for the Broncos (1-0) in their win in Hampden.
TJ Llerena had a pair of hits and drove in a run for Hampden. Bodie Bishop pitched six innings, allowing five hits, two runs and had seven strikeouts.
Hayden Dippner had two hits, including a triple, for Mt. Blue. Zak Koban and Jayden Meader each had an RBI.
Nolan Leso allowed four runs, nine hits and struck out four for the Cougars (1-1).
MARANACOOK 6, MCI 2: Kody Goucher had four hits as the Black Bears (3-0) prevailed in Readfield.
Luke McLaughlin and River Fallos added two hits apiece for Maranacook. Fallos pitched five innings on the mound to earn the win.
Braden Kennedy had two hits for MCI (0-1).
CONY 5, OCEANSIDE 2 (Wed): Trent Hayward was 2-for-2 with two RBIs as the Rams (1-0) won their season opener in Augusta.
Hayward had an RBI double as part of Cony’s three-run sixth inning.
Jordan Benedict pitched three innings for the Rams, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four. Landon Foster and Kam Douin relieved.
Jacob Walkinson (five innings, four hits, two runs) took the loss for Oceanside (0-1).
