The University of Maine Cooperative Extension plans to offer food safety training for volunteer cooks in multiple locations.

The first will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Kennebec County office, 125 State St. in Augusta. The registration deadline is Friday, April 7.

The second local training will be held from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Somerset County Extension Office, 7 County Drive in Skowhegan. The registration deadline is Friday, April 14.

Other locations include Falmouth on Thursday, April 19; and Ellsworth on Wednesday, April 25. Two online sessions will also be offered.

The Cooking for Crowds series offers up-to-date information on how to handle, transport, store and prepare foods safely for large group functions such as soup kitchens, church suppers, food pantries and community fundraisers.

Participants receive the Cooking for Crowds manual specifically designed for volunteer cooks, a certificate of attendance, poster, and an instant-read thermometer.

This class meets the Good Shepherd Food Bank food safety training requirements, according to a news release from Kathy Savoie at the UMaine Orono extension.
