Descendants of William and Jane Greenlaw plan to gather Aug. 18 and 19 in Brunswick, in conjunction with the Maine Highland Games.

The 2023 Greenlaw Reunion is being organized by the Greenlaw Family Association, formed in 2003 to promote genealogical research, preserve heritage, and strengthen kinship among Greenlaw descendants, according to a news release from Mary Offutt, association president.

In 1753 when William and Jane — along with sons John, James, William, Ebenezer, Jonathan, Charles and Alexander — came to the New World, their destination was “Mr. Waldo’s Settlement” at St. George’s River in Maine. About 1760 they removed to Deer Isle, and after the Revolutionary War the Loyalists among them removed to New Brunswick, Canada.

As the honored clan at the Maine Highland games, the Greenlaws will lead the opening ceremonies on Friday, Aug. 18, and show off their battle cry. On Saturday, Aug. 19 the association will hold its annual meeting, followed by a banquet-style dinner. Visitors can spend time at the association booth both days where refreshments will be served.

There’s an admission fee for the Maine Highland Games, but Greenlaw activities are free. Association membership of $10 a year is optional, although required in order to vote at the annual meeting.

For membership information as well as reunion details as plans are firmed up (also on Facebook), visit greenlawfamilyassociation.org. Accommodations in the Brunswick area are quickly filling up, so it’s recommended to plan early for this event.
