WISCASSET — Chewonki Foundation is offering two $15,000 Maine Youth Environmental Leaders Scholarships to support Maine students who would like to join Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki in 2023-24 for the fall or spring of their junior year in high school.
The semester-long academically rigorous residential program is based in Wiscasset. Learning takes place in classrooms, in the field, on the coast, at the farm, in the forest, and on extended back-country expeditions.
Side by side with their instructors, participants explore the concepts behind human ecology, and the intersection between humans and their natural, social and built environments, according to a news release from Sheryl Stearns, director of enrollment management and financial aid.
The ideal candidates are students in the top 20 percent of their class who have the support of a school or community leader, have a demonstrated appreciation for the natural world, and can envision creating positive change in their home community.
The application deadline for this scholarship opportunity is Wednesday, Feb. 15.
For more than 30 years, Maine Coast Semester graduates have gone on to achieve success in college and beyond as independent thinkers with broad perspectives, enabling them to make an impact through thoughtful collaboration and leadership.
Interested students and their families can find additional details at mainecoastsemester.org.
