An examination of the websites of Bruce Poliquin and Jared Golden may help the voter decide in the upcoming election. Golden calls climate change “the greatest environmental challenge of our time.” It continues, “(Golden) has pushed for our country to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement and he voted to pass the Climate Action Now Act, which would direct the administration to begin the decisive, comprehensive actions necessary to address climate change.”
Poliquin makes no mention of climate change. That has long been the position of Republicans on climate change: Say little, do nothing.
Why? The main reason is that effective action must be led by government. Voluntarism won’t cut it. Republicans hate to admit that an activist government, one that makes rules and regulations, may be necessary.
There are only two policy areas where bad outcomes could destroy us all: nuclear war and climate change. All other issues are by comparison of secondary importance.
