W.S. Winslow will give a talk focused on her debut novel “The Northern Reach,” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Bailey Library in Winthrop.

The website Boston.com recently praised the book for its “sweeping, haunted, hilarious and sad tales,” while Macmillan Publishers praised the novel in a review as a “breathtaking debut.” The book focuses on three families who reside in the fictional coastal town of Wellbridge, Maine.

Winslow was born and raised in Maine but spent her working life in Boston, New York and San Francisco. A ninth-generation Mainer, she now lives in Downeast Maine for most of the year. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in French from the University of Maine and an MFA from NYU. Her work has appeared in Lit Hub, Electric Lit, Yemassee Journal and Birdsthumb.
