Quinn McDaniel went 3 for 4, including a three-run homer in the second inning, and Scout Knotts and Jake Rainess added back-to-back solo shots in the fifth as Maine opened its America East baseball schedule Friday with an 11-7 victory over Binghamton in Vestal, New York.
Knotts and Rainess each drove in two runs, helping Maine (4-11) build a 10-0 lead. Jordan Schulefand scored three runs.
Maine’s Trevor Labonte pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while fanning eight and walking one.
SOUTHERN MAINE 15, OSWEGO STATE 5: Tom Vesosky’s three-run double highlighted a tiebreaking seven-run rally in the fifth inning as the Huskies (3-6) rolled past the Lakers (9-3) at Auburndale, Florida.
Vesosky finished with four RBI. Zach Mooers and Jason Komulainen each had three hits for USM.
Bryce Afthim went the distance on the mound, allowing seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
BOWDOIN 10, COLBY-SAWYER 3:Â The Polar Bears (4-5) broke open a close game with five runs in the fifth inning against the Chargers (3-8) at Auburndale, Florida.
Ben McKenzie was 3 for 5 with three RBI for Bowdoin. Christian O’Brien and Robbie Sarmanian each had two hits, and Jack Mullen allowed just two runs and five hits in seven innings while striking out seven.
BRANDEIS 13, ST. JOSEPH’S 6: Mike Khoury went 4 for 4 with a pair of home runs, and the Judges (3-2) scored seven runs in the third inning to pull away from the Monks (5-4) at Waltham, Massachusetts.
Drew Healy had a double and a solo homer for St. Joseph’s.
SOFTBALL
MAINE LOSES TWICE: Lexi Orozco’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Utah State (11-13) a 9-7 win over Maine (2-17) at Orem, Utah.
Izzy Nieblas went 3 for 5 with a two-run homer for Maine. Jasmine Gray was 4 for 5 and scored three runs, including a go-ahead run in the top of the eighth.
Earlier, Idaho State (13-6) scored eight runs in the sixth inning to rally past the Black Bears, 13-6.
Gabby Papuska had a two-run homer during a five-run fifth inning for Maine. Nieblas added a solo homer.
USM SPLITS: Madison Day’s two-run double highlighted a four-run first inning for Southern Maine (3-6) in a 10-1 win over Edgewood (7-8) at Clermont, Florida.
Hannah Shields and Rona Scott also drove in two runs apiece, and Kaitlyn Nelson went 3 for 4 with three runs scored.
Belle Snyder pitched a five-hitter with three strikeouts and one walk.
USM lost its first game of the day, 4-1 against Carroll.
Nelson scored the Huskies’ run on a throwing error in the fourth inning.
UNE SPLITS: Abby Miner drove in two runs, Becca Dumont and Taylor Depot each had two hits and two runs scored, and the University of New England survived a five-run ninth-inning rally by Lawrence (0-9) as it held on for a 9-7 victory in Clermont, Florida.
In UNE’s second game of the day, Miner went 3 for 4 with a home run, but the Nor’easters (3-7) lost 9-4 to Ripon (2-14).
MEN’S LACROSSE
AMHERST 22, BATES 10:Â Tanyr Krummenacher, Bayard Demallie and Brock Gonzalez each scored three goals for the Mammoths (2-1, 2-1 NESCAC) in a win over the Bobcats (0-5, 0-2) at Owings Mills, Maryland.
Malcolm Klingbeil, Robert Purcifull and Wil Masterson led Bates with two goals apiece.
