A Benton man and former medical marijuana store owner in Waterville was sentenced Monday in federal court in Bangor for distribution of cocaine and marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of firearms by an unlawful user of controlled substances.
Daniel Hall, 32, was sentenced to 27 months in prison and three years of supervised release, according to acting U.S. Attorney Donald E. Clark.
Hall was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock Jr., who also entered an order requiring Hall to forfeit nearly $16,000 in cash, two shotguns, one handgun and ammunition.
Hall pleaded guilty Jan. 5 to the charges, which came out of an investigation that involved the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Waterville Police Department; and Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
Court records show that on Jan. 29, 2020, Hall distributed cocaine and marijuana to a confidential informant at Green Thumb Organics, Hall’s medical marijuana store in Waterville. The informant did not have a medical marijuana patient card, according to court documents.
On Feb. 19, investigators executed federal search warrants at Green Thumb Organics and Hall’s house in Benton. At the business, agents seized about 3 pounds of processed marijuana and “edible” marijuana items that, in total, weighed less than 50 kilograms.
“Agents also seized records, approximately $16,000 in cash proceeds, a video surveillance system and items of paraphernalia,” according to a statement released by Clark. “At Hall’s residence, agents seized personal use quantities of drugs, drug paraphernalia, two shotguns, a handgun and ammunition.”
Waterville police Chief Joseph Massey said the arrest was “a great collaborative effort that resulted in the successful investigation and prosecution of Daniel Hall.”
“This was an important case because Mr. Hall owned and operated a medical marijuana business in Waterville where he illegally sold marijuana and other illegal drugs,” Massey said.
Green Thumb Organics is on Armory Road, between Main Street and Drummond Avenue. A woman who answered the telephone there Jan. 6 said a new owner took over the store last year and Hall was no longer associated with the business.
